Shillong, Jul 31: Two men have been found guilty in a crime committed against children in East Khasi Hills.
One Stevenson Nongsiej alias Steve was found guilty under Section 4 under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The section deals with deals with the offense of penetrative sexual assault on a child.
The case goes back to 2015 and Nongsiej was found guilty at the end of his trial of which the Special Judge MK Lyngdoh found the accused guilty. He was sentenced to seven years and a fine of Rs 30,000. In default he will serve an additional four months in prison.
The court also found one Tuparsing Lyngdoh Lyngkhoi alias Bah Duh guilty. He was sentenced to three years and six months imprisonment under Section 18 of the Act, which deals with punishment for attempt to commit an offense.
The case was registered at Rynjah Police Station under Sections 5(g)/6 of the POCSO Act read with Section 366A of the Indian Penal Code, which relates to procuration of minor girls.
The case was investigated by WPI S. Wanshnong, who is presently serving as the Prosecuting Inspector at the Shillong Court, East Khasi Hills.
