Shillong, Feb 3: Two persons arrested in connection with the murder of Indore-based businessman Raja Raghuvanshi have been released after police found no evidence linking them to the crime.
Balbir Ahirbar and Lokendra Singh Tomar were arrested on charges of destruction and concealment of evidence. Both had been granted bail by a local court in July last year.
Police have ruled out their involvement. East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem said, “Subsequent investigation and verification did not establish their role in the case. Hence, they have been cleared and released.”
He said a detailed and scientific probe revealed that only one person was responsible for tampering with evidence.
Police have since filed a second chargesheet in the case. Of the three individuals initially arrested on charges related to destruction of evidence, only one Shilom James (property dealer) has been chargesheeted and will now face trial.
A 790-page charge sheet was filed at the end of October against prime accused Sonam Raghuvanshi (the victim’s wife), her lover Raj Khushwaha, besides Akash Rajput, Anand Kurmi and Vishal Singh Chauhan, for allegedly executing the murder plan masterminded by Sonam and Raj.
Meanwhile, the prime accused in the murder case, Sonam remains in judicial custody. Her bail plea was earlier rejected by the court and investigation against her is ongoing.
