The new Tura MDC, Bernard Marak of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), paid a visit to Tura Civil Hospital to check up on the preparedness of the state government in tackling the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Marak was accompanied by other BJP Tura members on the inspection, which took in the oxygen stock and ICU at the hospital. These were found to be satisfactory, the MDC said.
“With the fast rising cases of Covid in the region, the TCH needs to be in its best state as it acts as the last resort for the other four districts of Garo Hills,” said Marak after the visit.
The hospital currently has 200 oxygen cylinders that are ready to use, with the remaining 244 to be refilled next week.
“The ICU rooms are also ready and most of the medicines, sanitizers, etc are all in stock. However, the government needs to arrange quarantine centres other than the paid quarantine centres. PPE kits also need to be arranged in advance for those who are working in the frontlines,” Marak asserted.
Furthermore, the saffron party felt that blood banks needed to be made ready with sufficient supplies through proper awareness.
“We want to assist in every way possible to provide support to tackle the rise of Covid cases in the state and will also monitor the supply of rations and other facilities provided by the Centre to the people,” the MDC added.
