A truck driver and his helper were violently mugged while on their way from Guwahati to Shillong at Lad Umroi, Ri-Bhoi, yesterday morning.
In an FIR registered with Umiam police, Sahar Ali, the truck driver, stated that he was transporting watermelons from Guwahati when he stopped his vehicle (AS 19 AC 2967) on the side of the road at Lad Umroi. At that point, two persons in a Meghalaya-registered Maruti Alto (ML 05 G 7713) accosted them and stole Ali’s helper’s mobile phone, valued at around Rs 35,000 when purchased.
When Ali protested, the muggers slashed him with a blade, resulting in a cut to his finger. The thieves then fled the spot.
