In a jolt to the Trinamool Congress in the State, one of its MDCs in Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) today joined the NPP.
Stevie Marak, the MDC from Boldamgre in South West Garo Hills district joined the NPP at a special function held at the party office here.
He was welcomed into the party by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong and NPP MDCs from Garo Hills.
Marak was instrumental in the victory of Rakesh Sangma during the recent election to the post of Chief Executive Member.
He along with Habibuz Zaman, another Trinamool Congress MDC from Shyamnagar constituency, helped Sangma win the CEM election and also paved the way for the NPP-led coalition to retain power in GHADC.
With Marak joining the NPP, the strength of the Trinamool Congress in GHADC has come down to ten.
It may be noted that on December 9, 2021, all eleven Congress MDCs in GHADC quit the party and joined the Trinamool Congress.
