The Election Department has banned transfers and postings of government officials in the entire East Khasi Hills district as part of the imposition of model code of conduct for the upcoming Assembly election in Sohiong constituency.
The adjourned poll to Sohiong constituency will be held on May 10 and the results will be announced on May 13.
According to sources, Additional Chief Electoral Officer Barnari Mawlong has sent a letter to Chief Secretary Donald P. Wahlang seeking immediate actions to be taken for enforcement of the code of conduct in the district.
The Election Department has also prohibited misuse of official vehicles, advertisement at the cost of public exchequer, photograph of political functionaries at the official website, development or construction related activities.
It also prohibited defacement of public property, defacement of government property, misuse of public space, defacement of private property.
