Shillong, Sep 25: The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Ri Bhoi organised a two-day training programme on “Uses of AI for Climate Resilient Agriculture”, which concluded today.
The programme was conducted under the NICRA-TDC (National Innovations in Climate Resilient Agriculture – Technology Demonstration Component) initiative in the villages of Mawbri and Thadnongiaw.
The training aimed to build awareness and capacity among local farmers and rural youth on the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in tackling climate-related challenges in agriculture. With climate variability increasingly impacting farming systems, the use of AI-driven tools and technologies is becoming critical for sustaining productivity, enhancing adaptive capacity, and ensuring long-term resilience.
Experts from KVK Ri Bhoi demonstrated how AI can be employed for weather forecasting, pest and disease prediction, smart irrigation, and crop health monitoring. Farmers were also introduced to mobile-based AI applications that offer real-time data to support decision-making on the farm.
During the sessions, participants shared experiences with changing weather patterns, erratic rainfall, and declining yields. The interactive training helped them understand how AI-powered solutions could address these problems by offering timely and precise recommendations.
Over 80 farmers from both villages attended the programme, showing keen interest in adopting new technologies and were very enthusiastic with the technology and its application to complement their farming practices.
The KVK team distributed the information in the local language to ensure wider dissemination of knowledge.
