A training programme for butchers at the bi-species abattoir in Demthring, West Jaiñtia Hills district began today.
The training programme was attended by veterinarians, leaders of the Jaiñtia Livestock Butcher Welfare Association and Khasi Jaintia Butcher Welfare Association, Shillong.
Mobile Veterinary Dispensary, Amlarem incharge Dr. Weimanhi Tyngkan said the veterinary doctors before slaughter to ensure that only the healthy animals are slaughtered for meat purpose.
She said vet doctors will be present during slaughtering To ensure that meat from animals is free from disease, wholesome and of no risk to human health.
The abattoir was inaugurated in December last year funded by NABARD with a sanctioned cost of Rs 7.83 crore. The capacity of the plant is for processing 50 heads of cattle and 100 head of hogs in one shift.
