One of the as yet unrecognised victims of the devastating bad weather that plagued Meghalaya in the last two weeks has been the state’s tourism industry.
While Meghalaya draws in tourists because of its rain-fed waterfalls and rivers, the intense period of rainfall has also caused devastation to tourist sites, such as that at Mawryngkhang in Wahkhen.
The local tourism promoting society there has decided to close the Mawryngkhang tourist spot until August to repair damage.
A bamboo bridge at Wah Rew was washed away and a major landslide occurred on the way to Mawryngkhan trekking point owing to incessant rain and the society has taken the decision to close the site to prevent any untoward incident and repair the damage.
