Public Health Engineering (PHE) Minister Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar has flagged before the Centre the issue of insufficient funds for implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in certain villages of Meghalaya.
Tongkhar informed that this issue was brought forth on September 16, before Union Minister for Jal Shakti, Gajendra Shekhawat during a review meeting held with PHE Ministers of the region.
The JJM envisages to provide drinking to every rural households in the country, but PHE Minister informed reporters that the rates fixed by the Jal Shakti Ministry is not sufficient.
Tongkhar informed that he had asked from the Union Minister for special rates for villages where water has to be drawn from sources which are far.
“There are those villages where households are scattered and it would be difficult to implement the scheme at the rate fixed,” Tongkhar informed.
Quoting the Union Minister, Tongkhar informed that the latter asked the State to bring proper justification for need to increase the funds in certain areas.
