With an aim to create awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco consumption and to ensure effective implementation of the Cigarette and Other Tobacco Products Act 2003, a team from the Tobacco Control Programme, through the enforcement squad, inspected tobacco shops in Nongpoh today as a part of the enforcement drive.
The inspection was led by the District Nodal Officer of the Tobacco Control Programme, V Mawlong, Extra Assistant Commissioner, D Kharshiing, and Food and Safety Inspector, V Pyngrope.
Speaking to media persons, Mawlong said that such surprise inspections will be conducted in the coming days and all the tobacco shops within the district should strictly follow the law and any one found in violation of the act they will be punished accordingly.
