The Trinamool Congress (TMC) is tainted by scams in its native West Bengal and will bring its culture of corruption to Meghalaya if it wins the February 27 Assembly election, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state spokesperson Mariahom Kharkrang said today.
Kharkrang referred to a TMC legislator in West Bengal who is in jail in relation to an alleged scam in primary schools recruitment.
“The scam is about illegally recruiting teachers and other non-teaching employees in Bengal’s schools. This can be best called TMC’s flagship model of employment. Do we want this model in Meghalaya?” Kharkrang asked during a press conference here.
Furthermore, the ex-cop cited other examples, claiming that Block Development Officers (BDOs) have been directed by the TMC to collect kickbacks in return for the issuance of job cards.
“This is the corrupt culture that the TMC wants to bring to the state,” Kharkrang said.
All the TMC’s legislators defected from the Congress during the term of the outgoing Assembly. Kharkrang thus accused them of being the same “bunch of crooks” who were running Meghalaya for eight years prior to 2018. They had hardly done anything positive for the state then but now are “trying to fool” the voters in order to be given another five years in power, he added.
Kharkrang, the North Shillong candidate, claimed that the TMC’s Meghalaya Youth Employment (MYE) Card scheme is another false hope and promise to cheat on the voters of Meghalaya.
Not sparing the National People’s Party (NPP), he said that the government’s job recruitment scheme lacks transparency and there is a general feeling that one has to be close to the NPP in order to get government jobs. This is leading to a majority of educated youths moving out of the state in search of better jobs and opportunities, Kharkrang claimed.
“NPP is promising 5 lakhs jobs for the next term but, let me tell you, like the previous five years, the next five will also see lakhs of government positions remain vacant [if the NPP comes back to power]. And when the position will ever be filled, it will be filled by the close knit kin of the NPP leaders and NPP MLAs,” Kharkrang said.
