Polling strategists IPAC (Indian Political Action Committee) have been accused by one businessman of defaulting on payments of Rs 14 lakh for vehicle hire.
IPAC is working furiously in Meghalaya on behalf of the Trinamool Congress ahead of the 2023 state elections.
This businessman, who wished to remain anonymous, said that he had been engaged to arrange vehicles for IPAC staff in Shillong and Tura since December last year.
“They have paid me through two cheques for Rs 4.64 lakh and Rs 2 lakh,” he said but both bounced. “I am being hounded daily by the vehicle drivers who are being harassed by their car owners for no fault of theirs.”
IPAC, he further claimed, has switched taxis, no longer using this particular businessman.
He says that he was owed Rs 6.89 lakh for the Shillong vehicles and another Rs 8.33 lakh for those in Tura. There is also a charge of Rs 1.27 lakh for excess mileage, which, he says, IPAC is refusing to pay.
Apart from the two bounced cheques, he received payment of Rs 1 lakh yesterday.
“They say they will pay the rest by Saturday but we don’t know for sure. We can only pray to God,” he concluded.
