The All Indian Trinamool Congress has sought action against unknown persons responsible to spread a fake press release regarding declaration of its party candidates for the 2023 assembly elections.
A FIR was formally lodged today with the officer in charge of the Cyber Cell by the party who demanded action under the Information and Technology Act, 2000.
A false press release dated June, 29 in the letter head of the party national general secretary along with his signature was circulated on social media, naming one Vickey Dey and Editor of The Shillong Times, Patricia Mukhim as candidates.
This was circulated on the same day when the party national general secretary, Abhishek Banerjee visited Shillong.
“This is completely a fake, false and fabricated press report by unknown people /miscreants to intentionally defame and malign the image of the party and also the name of the Editor, a well known personality in the society,” the TMC said.
The party in the FIR also asked the cyber cell to trace the first mobile user which had circulated the fake press release.
