The Pynursla unit of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has expressed its anger over the recent hike in the price of a domestic LPG cylinder to just under Rs 1,000, saying this reflects badly on the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Calling it “unjustified, anti-people, anti-poor”, the TMC said that the high rate of taxes imposed across all sectors has affected the needs and necessities of essential commodities that affect the common man.
The block committee of the TMC also wondered why none of the Meghalaya legislators has spoken out on these matters.
“It seems the government is unaware of the plight which is why it doesn’t intend to reduce state tax on fuel like petroleum, diesel and gas. The party also questions the intention of the BJP central leadership who come to the state on and off but do not know the situation that the masses are living through,” the TMC added in a press release.
The silence of the MDA government shows that they are happy in seeing the people suffer while it makes tall promises about development, it added, while worrying that the country could go down the Sri Lankan path; the neighbour to the south is currently plagued by instability caused by grave economic issues.
