Shillong, Aug 8: The United Democratic Party (UDP) appointed working president Titosstarwell Chyne as the party’s new general secretary.
The position had remained vacant since the resignation of Jemino Mawthoh on May 31.
Speaking to reporters after the Central Executive Committee meeting today, UDP president Metbah Lyngdoh said the decision to appoint Chyne was unanimously decided by the committee.
Chyne said his top priority would be to strengthen the party, which has experienced a blow following Mawthoh’s resignation. He also emphasised on close coordination between the party leadership and its MLAs.
He also said that the UDP has an action plan in place to strengthen its grassroots workers where the party has no representation.
Meanwhile, the imminent cabinet reshuffle issue was also raised during the meeting, which was not discussed. Lyngdoh said the CEC was not the platform to discuss but the party has noted suggestions made.
