The Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), Titostarwell Chyne, today stated that illegal mining and transportation of coal will have a deleterious impact on the council’s financial health.
“We strongly condemn the illegalities on coal going on in our state because these illegal activities and the leakage (of revenue) will have a bad impact on the district council’s share of mineral royalties,” he told reporters.
Demanding that the state government should see that all the illegal activities related to coal should stop immediately, he said that the KHADC will have to engage their officials to keep a check on the illegalities if the government fails to take steps.
When asked about the serious allegations against members of the state government, who have been accused of being involved in illegal coal mining, Chyne stated that he has no information on the identity of parties or their members of being involved.
