A surprising and unusual event took place in Klew, a village in Ri-Bhoi, where mysterious birds, likely a type of goose, appeared en masse, leaving the bewildered villagers unable to sleep due to the cacophonous noise they produced while flying overhead.
With winter approaching, this type of bird is probably migrating south for warmer parts.
Thousands of birds flew over the village on the night of October 25, causing a sense of amazement and unrest among the villagers due to their loud cries.
According to Lamburom Masharing, the village head of Klew, the residents were taken aback by this unusual visit.
One of these birds, unable to fly further, landed and became trapped in a paddy field. It was rescued by a villager named Adrinshon Sohiong, who responded to the bird’s cries when he found it stranded in the field.
The captured bird was carefully taken into the village and safeguarded in a special enclosure, as advised by the village authorities. The villagers were cautioned not to harm any other birds that might appear. The village plans to hand over the rescued bird to the Wildlife Department for further action in accordance with government regulations.
