The Sonapyrdi Tourism and Economic Development Society (STEDS) will organise the third Lukha Festival in East Jaiñtia Hills district aimed at preserving the river and promoting tourism.
The festival will be held in Narpuh Elaka from February 3 to 4. Besides swimming and boat racing competition, the festival will also have competitions like photography, beach futsal, scuba diving and Miss Lukha Beauty pageant.
Trekking at the Narpuh Wildlife Sanctuary is another attraction of the festival besides a performance by Shillong Based band, Snowwhite.
President of the society KS Suchiang said that the festival besides promoting tourism will further generate employment opportunities to the locals and preserve the magnificent Lukha River.
He also informed that due to COVID 19 pandemic the society was unable to hold the festival for two years in 2019-2020.
