Indian Navy divers retrieved the third body of a coal miner trapped inside the coal mine at Krem Ule, Umpleng on Friday.
The body was retrieved from the main shaft of the flooded mine and an inquest was conducted by the Executive Magistrate on the spot before the body was taken to the Khliehriat morgue for a post-mortem.
The body was identified as that of Abdul Sukkur (28) of Pingorgool (Bortol) village under Karimganj district, officials said, adding his family has come forward to claim.
Meanwhile, the family members of Anowurul Islam Barbhuiya told Highland Post that they have identified his body by the tabiz on the arms and neck. However, district officials are yet to confirm.
Officials also said that the second body which was retrieved yesterday will also be claimed even as relatives of the victims from Cachar, Barpeta and Kamrup (Rural) in Assam and Kailashahar in Tripura were again informed through police to inform the immediate family members of the victims trapped in the coal mine to identify the retrieved bodies.
Meanwhile, the NDRF and SDRF teams verified the level of water in the mine today and found that it rose by 10ft.
During the dewatering process, about 10, 08,000 litres of water was pumped out from the first shaft and about 17, 55,000 liters from the second shaft.
