Shillong, Feb 12: The Nepal Embassy in India confirmed that nine Nepalese citizens have died and seven injured in the deadly Thangsko mining accident in Meghalaya, which has claimed the lives of at least 32 people.
Following the tragic incident the Embassy has cautioned its citizens not to fall for middlemen or mediators or unknown persons and to complete all formal procedures before taking up jobs.
The Embassy said when accidents or other problems happen in such illegally-operated mines, it becomes difficult to carry out rescue operations or obtain compensation and other help.
However, it said that it is in constant coordination with India’s Foreign Ministry, local administration and police regarding the treatment of the injured, other essential services, and compensation to the families of the dead and the injured.

Meanwhile, reports said three deceased Nepalese citizens were cremated in Shillong after it became impossible to take their bodies back to Nepal.
The victims included Purna Bahadur Khapangi Magar (27) and his brother Surendra Khapangi Magar (24) and 35-year-old Nara Bahadur Khapangi Magar, all from Salghari Bhanjyang, Barahapokhari Rural Municipality-1 in Khotang.
