The Justice T Vaiphei inquiry commission looking into the police killing of former HNLC general secretary Cherishterfield Thangkhiew had its second sitting here today.
Two separate statements have been filed by Director General of Police (DGP) R Chandranathan and Additional DGP Idashisha Nongrang before the probe panel.
Also four of the family members of late Thangkhiew and their doctor have filed written statements on the case.
The commission is examining these statements minutely.
The next sitting of the commission for further proceedings, evidence, etc has been fixed on October 22 at 11 am.
The Vaiphei inquiry commission was constituted by the Meghalaya government under Section 3 of the Commission of Inquiry Act, 1952 to inquire into the facts and circumstances leading to the police action on August 13 resulting in the death of Thangkhiew at his residence on August 13.
The commission is looking into the culpability or otherwise of the police action resulting in the death of Thangkhiew and any other circumstances which, in the opinion of the commission, are relevant.
On September 10, the commission issued a public notice seeking statements in connection with the incident.
