Secretary of the Ministry of Textiles, Upendra Prasad Singh today visited the Diwon-Umden Eri Silk village and inspected the Design Innovation Resource Centre (DIRC), Common Facility Centre in Ri Bhoi district.
During his visit, Singh also visited some of the households of the weavers and dyers to observe the functioning of the weaving sector in that area and interacted with them.
Singh addressed the weavers at DUYA hall Diwon and said his visit was to see the ground reality of their activities and to listen to the problems faced by them. He also informed that the Centre is taking initiatives in promoting Eri Silk, as it is important for the people living in rural areas to achieve sustainable growth.
The weavers also briefed him on their various activities such as rearing, spinning, dyer, weaving and design etc. Some of weavers informed him that lack of proper marketing related to their products is one of their problems.
The Textiles Secretary informed that the government will be soon launch e-commerce for marketing of products and this would help farmers, weavers to promote their economic activities.
