The Airport Authority of India (AAI) has floated a tender for LiDAR (light detection and ranging) survey at Umroi airport.
This was informed by the AAI through its lawyer Nitesh Mozika during a hearing in the division bench of Meghalaya High Court today.
Similarly, the State government through Additional Advocate General K Khan informed the court that a memorandum of understanding for topography and OLS survey by aerial LiDAR at Umroi airport has been executed.
The High Court directed both the AAI and State government to file an affidavit on the matter within three weeks including the copy of the tender which has been floated. The next hearing on the matter will be held on March 5.
It may be mentioned that at the initiative of the State government and in conjunction with the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation, a sophisticated survey of the area around Umroi Airport is proposed to be conducted to ascertain the extent to which the existing runway can be extended and whether it may be feasible for wider-bodied aircraft than ATR and Bombardiers to operate from the airport.
During the hearing in the High Court on October 31, 2023, the AAI through Mozika informed the court that Rs 4 crore was required for the LiDAR survey which will be outsourced to an agency.
