Shillong, Mar 8: Parts of Meghalaya are experiencing a warmer than average March, with Sohra and Umiam recording highs several degrees higher than normal.
In the update issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) today for the previous 24 hours, the high recorded in Sohra today was 26.5 degrees Celsius, 5.5 degrees higher than normal. Umiam recorded a high of 28.0 (2.3 degrees higher than normal) and Shillong 22.2 (1.6 degrees higher than normal).
Minimum temperatures were also higher – 12.0 in Shillong (2.1 higher), 13.5 in Sohra (2.4 higher) and 10.2 in Umiam (2.5 higher).
Hotter temperatures have been the norm pretty much for the whole of the month so far. The biggest difference from the mean was in Sohra on March 6 when the high was 27.9 degrees, some 7.4 higher than normal.
The IMD has predicted that parts of the state could witness rainfall on March 11-12. Wet weather could lead to temperatures coming down.
