The State on Saturday witnessed a long period of power cut due to certain technical snag.
“Today, a sudden and unexpected shutdown due to some technical snag of the 2nd Unit of the OTPC Palatana Power Plant at Tripura has unfortunately resulted in zero generation from OTPC,” Power Minister James Sangma said.
Sangma informed that this has resulted in disruption of supply of power to all the north eastern States including Meghalaya.
“Meghalaya unfortunately has to face an additional shortage of 37 MW. MeECL has immediately given instructions for diversion of power from the industries to the public. When the power from the OTPC is restored, power to the Industries will be resumed,” he added.
Sangma said that the OTPC Palatana Power Plant has two units (363.3 MW X 2) out of which one unit was shut down due to maintenance resulting in shortage of supply due to which MeECL had earlier brought out a three hour load shedding schedule.
The State Power Minister informed that the earlier load shedding schedule for three hours as communicated earlier due to the maintenance of 1 unit of OTPC will continue.
