The All Garo Hills SSA School Teachers’ Association (AGHSSASTA), through a press release today, has sought for the quick release of their December salary as well as the payment of eight months in arrears, failing which they will boycott classes, including the annual examinations due in March.
“We are facing a huge financial burden due to the upcoming admission of our children in schools,” said the teachers. “Further, our arrears from August 2016 to March 2017 have been pending for years. The government has failed to address the issue and we demand that these dues are released immediately.”
The association clarified that it had submitted letters on the matter to the State government on the issue of arrears without a response. They contended that they were informed that their dues would be cleared once funds were received from the Centre. This explanation, according to them, does not hold much water.
“We cannot believe the assurance given by the state government that we will be given our pending arrears only if the central government releases the funds. How is it true that our arrears are still pending? How is the central government still keeping our arrears pending since 2016-17?” asked the President, Labingstone Momin, asking why the matter has not been sorted out between the state and central government as yet.
The teachers have resolved to boycott regular classes and the annual examinations to be held in March if the government fails to release their December salary and arrears this month.
