SSA teachers have threatened to resign enmasse and said that the onus is on the government if elementary education in the State collapses.
The teachers have been camping overnight and through the day at the parking lot near the Additional Secretariat here and have also held protests in Tura over delays in the release of their salaries.
“We demand that the education minister should take back his statement by tomorrow. If he fails to do so, then it is the state government who compelled us to do a mass resignation of all 12,541 SSA teachers,” Meghalaya SSA School Association (MSSASA) president, Aristotle Rymbai told reporters.
The decision of the teachers came after Education Minister, Lahkmen Rymbui sounded a note of warning to take action if the teachers continue with their strike.
“If we resort to mass resignation, elementary education in the state will collapse and at that time, the education minister and the government will be responsible,” Rymbai added.
At the sit-in protest venue, slogans like “Rymbui step down” and “down down education minister” were chanted by the teachers, agitated by his statement today.
