The Revenue & Disaster Management Department and the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) today conducted a Table Top Exercise (TTEx) ahead of the state-level mock exercise scheduled on March 20.
Matsiewdor War Nongbri, Commissioner and Secretary in the Revenue and Disaster Management Department and MSDMA executive director, opened the session by emphasising the importance of disaster preparedness.
Commissioner and Secretary Sanjay Goyal expressed hope that the exercise would provide valuable inputs and experience to enhance the state’s ability to cope with such natural disasters. The drill was an ideal time to reassess resources and infrastructure to ensure they are fully utilised and to improve the speed and coordination of response efforts in the event of a disaster.
Meanwhile, NDMA member Lt Gen (retd) Syed Ata Hasnain spoke about the significance of such exercises in preparing for potential disasters.
He also urged officials to review the 10-point agenda available on the NDMA website and stressed on key areas like community response, early warning app SACHET, school and hospital safety programmes and communication during disasters.
The event also featured online presentations from 11 districts to showcase their preparedness. Following this was a table top exercise to provide an opportunity for key officials to simulate and discuss disaster response strategies in a controlled environment.
