Shillong MP Ricky AJ Syngkon today brought a Zero Hour Notice in the Lok Sabha on the issues afflicting North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), calling for Vice-Chancellor PS Shukla’s removal.
Syngkon, who was an Assistant Professor in NEHU’s Department of Commerce before winning last year’s Parliamentary election, told the Lok Sabha that the only central university in Meghalaya is in total disarray at the moment.
“The reason for this is because of the leadership crisis that the university is facing,” the Voice of the People Party (VPP) MP said.
According to him, the incompetency of Shukla has led to protests by students, teachers and non-teaching staff and it has brought NEHU to a standstill. The VC is practically in exile, with students and many staff not wanting him back.
Syngkon said that in the last couple of months the university has been greatly affected in terms of teaching and research which is the prime objective of any learning institution.
He urged the Union Ministry of Education to take up the matter seriously and remove the Vice-Chancellor.
