The snap of electric wires and unattended corroded electric poles pose a great threat to the lives of pedestrians in Manad, South West Khasi Hills.
According to the secretary of the Synjuk Rangbah San Shnong Manad Area, PS Nongsiej, snapped electric wires were detected in the area today morning at around 3am by people on their way to Mawkyrwat market. Fortunately, no one was injured, though residents suffered a loss of power until 9:30am.
Other electricity problems include the rusting away of electric poles in the area. It was only a few months back that electricity poles collapsed at Pyndenlyngdoh and Mawbidong villages and Nongsiej claimed that the MeECL office in Mawkyrwat does not bother to repair or replace poles that are on the brink of collapse despite complaints being made.
