Shillong-based folk-fusion band Summersalt released its song, ‘Mluh’ (Salt), from their second album today, written in partnership with NESFAS.
The song, part of the album entitled ‘Kliar’ (Summit), was released today to coincide with the birthday of former bandmate Baiaineh C Shangpliang, known as Nah, who passed away two years ago.
‘Mluh’ was recorded in 2018 and calls upon listeners to celebrate the richness of indigenous food.
“We have been on this journey for 15 years now and have been given to understand that the music from Shillong and Khasi Hills has reached a very seasoned stage that it deserves a world-class treatment, therefore, our plunge to record this at the studios of Yash Raj Films and mix and master this at Orbis Studio, both in India’s entertainment hub Mumbai,” lead bandmate Kit Shangpliang said.
The album’s vision is to give the best treatment to the music of the hills and particularly of the Khasi Hills.
There are 11 songs on the album – six in Khasi and five in English. After ‘Mluh’ the other songs will be released over a period of seven months.
