Shillong, Feb 5: Meghalaya’s cabinet has approved the draft Meghalaya Outstanding Sportsman Direct Appointment Service Rules, aiming to provide job opportunities to outstanding sports personalities.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma announced the decision following a cabinet meeting today, saying, “We have decided to create a special cadre for sports persons who win medals in recognized games like Olympics, National Games and South Asian Games.”
The rules apply to six recognised sports and the appointment will be based on the medal won. A special category will be created for outstanding sports persons, ensuring no disturbance in the promotions and postings of other employees.
Sangma added, “We have also clarified the 2 percent reservation policy for sportspersons. The Sports Department will certify eligible sports persons through an online application process and a certificate will be issued to them.”
