A senior citizen in Ri Bhoi, Cleophast Thre Nongrum has called on all citizens of the State to come out and support teachers who are deprived of their rights stating that none of the elected representatives will speak for them.
“It is a matter of shame for this government, who believes that teachers are builders of the nation when they are compelled to come out in the streets like animals to secure their rights,” Nongrum said at a press conference in Nongpoh.
He said teachers are not paid for months and yet they are being assigned for election duty instead of allowing them to concentrate on uplifting education.
The senior citizen from Umdaprangi village questioned, “How can we expect teachers to build the nation when their rights are being deprived,” adding, that the blame goes not only to the government but to all the MLAs in the state assembly.
“It is high time that issues faced by teachers should be jointly supported by students, families and people of the state and if the government is concerned about education sector it should not only pay good salaries but works towards developing infrastructure in schools too,” Nongrum said.
