A school student was hacked to death with an axe in broad daylight in East Garo Hills district.
The incident took place at Samgong area near Williamnagar on Friday.
Police said, the victim was a 19-year old resident of Dawa Matchakolgre in Williamnagar.
The accused James R. Sangma from the same locality is currently on the run.
East Garo Hill Superintendent of Police, Stephen Rynjah said special team under the command of the Additional Superintendent of Police assisted by the DSP (HQ & Crime) and various other officers has been constituted to track and nab the accused person at the earliest.
Police said the accused supposedly was in a relationship with the victim and had asked her to meet him in Samsong area. However, the claim is yet to be ascertained.
