The name ASEZ embodies the meaning ‘Save the Earth from A to Z’. Driven by the aspiration of university students changing the world, the group engages in climate change response, community service, crime prevention and disaster relief activities worldwide.
The Zero Plastic 2040 campaign is ASEZ’s global initiative to address the increasingly serious plastic problem. As the international community strives to conclude international agreements, ASEZ focuses on campaigns, education, resource recycling, and local cleanups to end plastic pollution by 2040.
Approximately 62 ASEZ members, friends and family volunteered for the cleanup. They collected discarded plastic items, including disposable straws and cups, food wrappers, and plastic bags, along with household waste, along a 1km stretch of Nongrah Road.
The volunteers worked for two hours and collected 400kg of waste. Recyclable plastics were separated and disposed of according to standards.
The Nongrah headman provided a garbage collection vehicle to support the initiative. ASEZ raised awareness about environmental protection through a panel exhibition featuring the severity of plastic pollution and practical protection practices.
Weilamangdor Kharlor, an ASEZ activist, said, “ASEZ conducts cleanup campaigns worldwide, obeying Mother’s teaching. Our goal is to make the world cleaner and promote awareness to prevent careless plastic disposal.”
ASEZ has led climate change response efforts in Meghalaya and other states, including Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Telangana, West Bengal and Chhattisgarh.
