The Stop Diarrhoea Campaign 2024 was launched in East Jaintia Hills district recently the office of the District Medical & Health Officer.
A programme was held at the Khliehriat Civil Hospital, which was attended by District Medical & Health Officer Dr D. Shylla in the presence of the District Immunization Officer (DIO) In-charge East Jaintia Hills District, Dr N.P Suchiang, Medical & Health Officer(Paediatrician), Khliehriat Civil Hospital, Dr H. RM Lamare, Community Health Officer (CHO), Khliehriat Civil Hospital, R. Dhar, Medical &Health Officer, Khliehriat Civil Hospital, Dr S.T.S. Momin, ASHAs and several others.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Shylla highlighted the aim and objective of the campaign which is to educate people on the prevention of diarrhoea which is a preventable disease. He emphasised on the importance of maintaining cleanliness, hygiene, etc which forms part of the process of prevention from diarrhoea.
Dr. Shylla also said that diarrhoea is not a new disease which people are not aware, but it is a disease that has long been in existence which people mostly get during the summer season especially children. He also said that the campaign aims at educating people on the importance of prevention and early treatment of diarrhoea and urged the gathering to cooperate with the Health Department and to spread the message to the community regarding prevention of diarrhoea.
Dr Lamare in his speech dwelt at length on the ways and means which people must adopt at home in order to prevent diarrhoea. Speaking on the cause of diarrhoea particularly in children, he also informed the gathering on the importance of ORS and Zinc in preventing the cause of diarrhoea and resultant dehydration.
