The Directorate of Higher and Technical Education has received funds of Rs 108,83,36,926 for disbursal of Post Matric Scholarship for the year 2023-24 to students belonging to Meghalaya.
The amount comprises Rs 98,08,91,952 from the Ministry of Tribal Affairs as the Central share and Rs 10,89,87,995 from the Government of Meghalaya as the equivalent State share.
A total of 49,628 students have already been paid their scholarships.
In the first installment, the total fund received was Rs 42,32,13,280 of which the Central share was Rs 38,09,91,952 while the State share was Rs 4,23,2I,328. The number of beneficiaries paid was 17,364.
In the second installment, the total fund received was Rs 66,66,66,667 of which the Central share was Rs 60,00,00,000 while the State share was Rs 6,66,66,667. The number of beneficiaries paid was 32,064.
“The remaining 27,127 beneficiaries will be paid once the third installment of funds is received from the Ministry of Tribal Affairs,” the directorate said today.
The directorate said that it is in the process of actively pursuing the Government of India for the release of the third installment of funds.
