The Meghalaya Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has taken suo motu cognisance to the killing of a 19-year-old girl in Williamnagar, East Garo Hills, recently.
The victim was hacked to death by a man at Dawa Matchakolgre area in Williamnagar on July 18.
The accused, James R Sangma, was supposedly in a relationship with the victim. He is accused of having hacked the 19-year-old woman to death in a public place with a machete.
“The commission directed the Superintendent of Police of East Garo Hills to submit a detailed report on the matter on the next date of hearing,” L Ch Marak, MHRC Secretary, said in an order.
