The Central government has released Rs 58 crore to Meghalaya to enable it to clear the pending salaries of SSA school teachers for the months of August and September.
Informing this today, Meghalaya SSA Schools Association (MSSASA) Aristotle Rymbai said that he had been informed by Education Department Secretary Ambrose Ch Marak regarding release of the amount by the Centre for payment of the salaries for two month to the SSA school teachers.
“I thank all the 12,541 SSA school teachers in the State who joined the agitation called by MSSASA to put pressure on the government to release our dues,” Rymbai said.
It may be mentioned that today, SSA teachers in the State sent letters via post offices to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui demanding payment of salaries.
The teachers so far had been paid salaries for two months, June and July, after the Central government released an amount of Rs 80 crore in November.
Recently, MSSASA has announced a non-cooperation movement against the State government as a mark of protest against delay to clear the pending salaries of SSA school teachers.
Meanwhile, SSA teachers in Garo Hills have called off the hunger strike. “However, three months’ of salaries are still pending and we will pick up our protest in January if the MDA government does not release these,” said publicity secretary, Bunbunbirth Marak.
