Shillong, Dec 17: The Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) held a protest meeting here today condemning the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after a setback for the Enforcement Directorate in the National Herald case.
The BJP, the Congress alleged, has been misusing central investigative agencies to target the Gandhi family and intimidate political opposition.
Yesterday a Special Court in New Delhi refused to take cognisance of the ED’s prosecution complaint under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act in the National Herald case, which involves allegations that Rahul and Sonia Gandhi, among others, misappropriated crores of assets of the National Herald’s parent company for their own interest.
The Congress today explained that the court declined to examine the allegations as the prosecution “itself was unsustainable from the outset”. This finding exposes the weakness of the case and raises serious questions about the manner in which the ED has been used under the present BJP government, the party added.
