The State BJP has strongly opposed to the reported move of the government to dismiss Justice (retired) BP Katakey, the head of the one-man committee looking into illegal coal mining and transportation in the state.
“Terminating the panel at this juncture is tantamount to obstruction of justice and prevention of the truth emerging into the public domain. Rather than removing him, the Govt should be concerned about unearthing the people behind illegal mining and transportation of coal”, State BJP Chief Spokesperson Mariahom Kharkrang in a statement today said.
He said the committee has been appointed by the High Court and it’s imperative that the panel takes the enquiry to its logical conclusion.
“As a party that advocates transparency in all walks of public life, BJP Meghalaya disagrees with the government’s reported move to end the service of Justice (Retd) BP Katakey,” he said.
Kharkrang also said that the party has also formed a panel to enquire into the alleged illegal coal mining and transportation activities in Meghalaya and the findings will also be submitted to its central leadership on completion.
