The Autumn Session of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly concluded here today with several bills passed.
One of those was the Meghalaya Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) (Repealing) Bill 2022, which revoked the 2014 state act to pave the way for Meghalaya to adopt the central government’s legislation on the subject.
Also, the Assembly passed the Meghalaya Appropriation (No. IV) Bill 2022, through which the government will withdraw Rs 1,240.25 crore from the consolidated fund. The Law University of Meghalaya Bill 2022 was also passed.
Earlier, during the session, Taxation Minister James PK Sangma introduced the Meghalaya Professions, Trades, Callings and Employments Taxation (Amendment) Bill 2022. Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, who is in charge of the Tourism Department, also introduced the Meghalaya Ropeway Bill 2022, which will open up the way for cable cars to be set up in the state, with the first planned up to Shillong Peak. The bill will regulate for safety and also enable the creation of a specialised authority for the development of ropeways in the state.
Several other bills were passed and reports laid on the last day of the Autumn Session of the 10th Legislative Assembly after which the house was adjourned by Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh.
