The members of the Meghalaya Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan Schools’ Association (MSSASA) expressed their gratitude today to the organizations, groups and individuals who lent their support to the cause of the teachers during their four-day protest.
The teachers were agitating for their five months of pending salaries. Yesterday the state government promised to clear four months’ worth by the end of this month.
Speaking to the media persons, MSSASA publicity secretary Friday Rymbai said that the pressure groups, organizations, individuals, families and friends really supported them in their hour of need.
MSSASA president Aristotle Rymbai also expressed his gratitude to Governor Satya Pal Malik, who gave them a patient hearing and took the initiative to talk to the Chief Minister on the issue.
Meanwhile, as the government has accepted their demands, the teachers have climbed down from their demand for an apology from Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui, some of whose comments in the past days the teachers found objectionable.
