SSA teachers in Garo Hills have decided to cease work for a week from March 14 in protest against the non-payment of dues pending from October last year.
The decision was taken at a central executive meeting held in Tura today by teachers under the banner of the All Garo Hills SSA School Teachers association (AGHSSASTA).
Publicity secretary of the association, Bunbunbirth Marak in a press release said that the SSA school teachers will not take classes, conduct examination and will not attend trainings, medical and election duties staring March 14.
“We are not satisfied with one or two month’s salaries in every five or six months release by the state Government as before. If dues are not cleared we will go on with the indefinite shutdown of all our duties,” Marak said.
Earlier, on March 2 Education Minister, Lahkmen Rymbui had announced that the State government will clear two months worth of dues, after the teachers carried out a march protest in Shillong.
Meanwhile, the AGHSSASTA has termed a statement released by the A’chik Kobor as false. Marak said that the president of the association, Labingstone G Momin was blamed that he denied giving a statement during the rally causing insult to the media.
He said the association and its president never condemned and insult any local media in the mass rally. “We therefore urged all the local media not to spread rumours and not to give any press statement on any issues without any proof and confirmation of the association in the near future.”
