The All Meghalaya SSA 4th Teachers Association today met various education officials as well as Education Minister, Lahkmen Rymbui to seek a redressal of their long pending demands.
The association met the Director of School Education and Literacy (DSEL), A Ch Marak, who assured them that one of the demands, the hike in the salaries of the SSA 4th teacher to Rs 20,493 had already been proposed in 2020 and awaited approval.
The increase in salary, to be at par with other SSA teachers, had been one of the principal demands of the association.
“We also met the minister in charge of education, Lakhmen Rymbui in his chamber to seek his help in addressing our concerns. Further we met the principal secretary for education, DP Wahlang as well as the special officer, I Lyngdoh on our concerns,” said the representative of the teachers.
Besides an increase in remuneration, the teachers have been fighting to get their services regularised and have been approaching various ministers and the department concerned to get assent to their demands.
“We have been sacrificing our lives to educate children and have been doing so for many years. Based on the longevity of our work as teachers, we have demanded that our services be regularized,” said the association members.
Currently there are more than 1500 SSA 4th teachers in the state.
