The All Meghalaya 4th Teachers’ Association under SSA met Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui yesterday over their long-pending demands.
The teachers had met Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma earlier in the month on the same issue.
The teachers have been demanding equal pay for equal work as they are still being paid only Rs 12,000 for the same amount of work being done by their SSA colleagues, who draw Rs 20,493 as monthly salaries. This cause has been pursued by the teachers since 2017 without much to show for it.
“We met the minister and he has promised to look into the matter and also discuss the same with the Chief Minister. We have also met the Deputy Chief Minister on the issue while also meeting the special officer of the Education Minister, I Lyngdoh,” said the teachers through a release.
The teachers also met DP Wahlang, Principal Secretary in the Department of Education on the issue and were assured the matter will be looked into.
