The three-day Children Sports Festival, under Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, for children of childcare institutions in East Jaintia Hills was inaugurated today by the Additional Deputy Commissioner A Nongbri at Dkhiah West.
The festival has been organised by the office of the District Child Protection Unit.
Nongbri said that sporting activities, exercise and recreational activities are very important for the physical health and mental well-being of children. “The Children Sports Festival is a platform for children to showcase their skills, talents, to know their strengths and weaknesses,” he added.
R Kynjing, the District Child Protection Officer, informed that the festival was approved by the National Implementation Committee (NIC) and Union Ministry of Culture and implemented by the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development under Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.
Participating children, both boys and girls, will take part in a 100m race, relay r, kabaddi, kho kho, tug of war, dodgeball, a cross country race, basketball, football and indoor games over the course of the three days.
