The West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner office in collaboration with the Nongstoiñ Town Committee, organized an awareness program and a special health check-up camp for waste pickers as part of the “NAMASTE Day 2025” celebration.
The camp, held to recognize the contributions of waste pickers in keeping the town clean, offered medical screenings and connected participants to key government welfare schemes, including health insurance.
This initiative aimed to support the well-being of waste pickers, who are often overlooked despite their vital contributions to maintaining public health and hygiene.
By providing access to medical screenings and government welfare schemes, the district administration hopes to improve the lives of these unsung heroes and promote a healthier and more sustainable community.
The program was attended by Extra Assistant Commissioner I. Momin and DMHO Dr GR Marwein, who delivered an awareness session on the importance of health and well-being for waste pickers.
