Shillong, Aug 23: A special awareness drive on Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, Swachhta hi Seva and tree plantation were held at Ampati Degree College in South West Garo Hills district on Friday.

Medical Officer Dr. Matgrik Sangma while delivering a talk on Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan said South West Garo Hills district sharing a border area with Bangladesh and Assam, is more prone to illegal drugs trafficking for making quick and easy money which has led to increased drugs abuse, particularly among the youth and adolescents who easily fall into many types of substance abuse, affecting their mental and physical wellbeing.
Therefore in order to help these victims of drugs addiction, State government is providing help for mental health issues related to drug abuse through the District Mental Health Programme, he informed and shared a Help Line number 9362749485 and Tele-MANAS, Meghalaya’s Mental Health Helpline number 14410, which is available in English, Khasi, Pnar, Garo & Hindi.
Vice Principal of Ampati Degree College, Laritha R. Marak and Lecturers Thinku G Sangma and Chunki Koch also delivered a talk on drugs related issues, ill-effects of tobacco, importance of tree plantation, and cleanliness and sanitation.
The day-long event saw activities like administration of Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan and Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan pledge, cleanliness drive, tree plantation of varieties of litchi and pomelo saplings and Quiz competition.
